Happy Monday! I cannot believe June is over~~~ it flew by in two shakes. I do know it is July in Texas by the heat…it has finally caught up with us after all of the rain we had. But as I say every summer~~ I would rather sweat in the summer than shovel snow in the winter and have to wear ugly snow shoes. Last I checked they do not make a kitten heel that is conducive to walking on snow:)
The commercial job I have been working on has been all consuming but in a good way. I am working with a new contractor ( to me) that is delightful to work with and my client who hired me to do the job is equally wonderful to work for. I did his home in 2020…we started at the very beginning of covid which was a challenge but the end result was great. It is always the biggest compliment to be called back to do more design work !!!! We tore a wall down between two offices to make one huge office….and the walls are curved. Melding the hardwood floors and building a custom bookcase to hide the closet door ( there will be a hidden door now) has been a challenge. But I never stop with no….I just go to plan B. After being told “ I don’t think so but maybe” from two millwork firms ….I got my custom man involved. He had it figured out in 15 minutes today~~~~~ a huge relief! My flooring resource is who figured out the floor issue and is doing the job. I am a HUGE relationship person which always plays in my favor when a challenge arrises. I am thankful for the amazing craftsmen that I have met and continue to use after 34 years in the world of design.
A client sent me a picture of the lobby where he is staying in Lake Como. AMAZING!!!! I have stared at the image for hours picking apart all of the details. Because I am scared of being sued by people….I am not going to give the name of the hotel….even though he took the picture. If you read this blog and want to know the name of the hotel….please feel free to email me at kaygenuadesigns@gmail.com. If you contact me through my blog site it will not let me respond.
Happy July! Happy Summer! We still have two months ~~~~ enjoy! Happy 4th of July on Thursday. Have fun and be safe!
Take care,
Kay
The lobby of the hotel. WOW!!!! What a Fabulous explosion of color!!!!!
The door surrounds are incredible…that molding and the shape. It looks like there are skinny display shelves in between the moldings….a favorite feature of mine. I did a house in Boston that had this and have always remembered and loved it. Those sconces are so lovely. The art taken up so high is commanding.
This round doorway is another added feature. I have never placed a fishbowl on a stand and displayed on a table…..but it sure lets you see it!
Look at the custom detail on the hardwood floors~~~ a pure work of art!
The shape of these settees is fabulous. I love how they created vinyettes by having them placed back to back. I do not usually have upholstery placed this closely….but for some reason in this room it does not bother me. The electric colors of sumptuous velvet is so inviting. I love the tables…the lamps…the accessories. A feast for the eyes and senses! I could truly just sit in this room and stare!!!
We celebrated Riley & Harrison’s birthday a week ago on Saturday. I bought steaks from The Meatboard and made my cheese grits. SO YUMMY!
They wanted sheetcake from Central Market. It tastes like my One Momma’s cake!
Tutu was not happy with my paperwork sorting last week…..so she just sat on it!
With the heat upon us….some of my spring flowers have withered up. I cheated and made two handing baskets out of fake hydrangeas on Sunday. Take that Texas heat!!!! They look pretty from afar! I did not think getting new hanging baskets in 102 degree heat would be worth my money! I call this my Coco Chanel method…..she mixed real pearls with costume pearls~~~~ so why can’t I mix fake plants with real????!!!!
