A Newport Wedding

September 16, 2025 Kay Genua

I wore a dress from Badgley Mischka with a a beaded purse that was mother’s. My room was too small to take my picture!

Happy Tuesday!

I had the MOST amazing time at the wedding I attended in Newport last weekend. I had never been to Newport so I took in everything I could in the three days I was there. I rented a car so that I would have total freedom to do and see what I wanted on my time. I was a bit rattled when I got there on Thursday and was late for the first party…so I took an Uber the first night. It was $28.00 for a 7 minute ride. Except for the night of the wedding where there was transportation provided….I drove myself everywhere after the first Uber ride! I figured out how to work everything in the car on Friday morning so I was all good…..new cars and new buttons/screens always confuse me!

The first party was at Bailey’s Beach Club right on the water. My phone was drained from the day of travel and using my GPS to get from the airport to the hotel….so I did not take near as many pictures as I normally would have. The club house was SO beautiful and they had fire pits with chairs all around on the sand by the water. It was dreamy! I of course was LOVING all of the seafood!!!! It was a spectacular way to kick off the wedding weekend. The attire was “ smart casual”~~~ and I was afraid I was going to be a bit dressier than most~~~ but my outfit was perfect! Having my long term Fort Worth friends transported to this setting in Newport was beyond special!

Friday I toured the mansions. I was OUT OF MY MIND enthralled with every aspect of what I saw!!!!! I will devote an entire blog to the 3 main houses ( one was a bit more of a museum) in the coming week. Because The Guided Age is one of my FAVORITE shows…..seeing the room where the scenes were shot just thrilled me. The 2 story butlers pantries I saw in 2 homes made my heart sing really big!!!!

Friday night was the Rehearsal dinner of which I was not included….but there was a welcome party after for the rest of the guests. It was at Gardiner House right on the water. The same party planner who did Riley’s deb party in 2015 did the wedding~~~ I adored seeing him and knew everything would be perfect with him in charge. This was a cocktail party and my dress was also perfect~~~ 2 for 2!!!!! Another festive evening!

Saturday I walked all around Newport close to the hotel~~~ which was located in the middle of town . The hotel was lovely….but being located where it was and the fact that it was founded in 1926……my room was TINY!!!!!!!!!! Two people in this room could not have functioned very well! After I walked for about 2 hours I got my car and drove about 30 minutes away. I saw the Gooseneck Cove Salt Marsh and Brenton Point State Park. I was thrilled to get to experience both even though it cut into my much needed nap time in the room before the wedding!

The wedding was at St. John’s Episcopal Church….also almost on the water. The church was built in 1740 with an addition in 1870. It was stunning! So special! I could not take a picture of it because I had rose petals in my hand….but we formed a line for the bride and groom to walk through and threw fresh white rose petals . DREAMY!!!!!!

We walked to the harbor after the ceremony and the bride and groom left in a boat to travel to the reception. It was like something out of the movies!

The reception was at Eisenhower House on the lawn with dinner and dancing in a tent with twinkle lights. Oh how I wish mother could have been with me to experience all of this! Amazing!!!! I did not go to the Late Night Party at The SkyBar at Clarke Cooke House…..but I am sure it was just as memorable.

What a wedding!!!!!!!!! I am SO, SO happy I “made the scene” as mother would have said!!! It was an experience I will treasure the rest of my life!

I hope all of my readers have been well!!! Look for the upcoming blogs covering the mansions. Take care!

The entry to the club at Bailey’s Beach Club. I LOVE the draperies!!!!!!!!! Those cornices!!

How magical!!! The water was off to the left. I really am bummed I could not take more pictures! I had 5% battery by the time I left….

The Welcome Party at Gardiner House. Such an elegant room!

Me with my precious Riley. My dress this night was from Akris worn with my favorite Chanel pearls.

The salt marsh I saw on Saturday. I loved being able to stop my car and jump out!

Just one of the HUGE houses I saw on my drive. These huge rock formations were everywhere….so cool!

One of the views at the park. There were people flying kites…..I could not get a picture of thst because I could not stop the car at that point. So happy I got to see this!

The church. Lovely.

The architecture was fabulous! Flowers were everywhere!!!

Everyone walking to the harbor after the wedding.

The bride and groom getting on the boat!!!!!! Not your ordinary exit!!!!

The tent at the recption. It was dusk….and just magical.

Riley was in the wedding. I was happy to snag her for a picture during the cocktail hour before dinner.

The Eisenhower House. Awesome!

Love of friends and family was truly in the air!

I just had to get a picture inside before dinner began. Beyond elegant!!!

A close up of the tables. Glorious!

The bar in the tent. The flowers were stunning! I love that center detail.

The menu. I had the halibut. Divine!!!!

The bride’s table. Outstanding. She glowed with happiness all night:)

The flowers at the end of the bride’s table. WOW!!

As I knew would be the case….every detail was perfect.

The band was incredible! The twinkle lights added to the magical feel of the whole party. I wanted to pinch myself that I was there!!!
