Happy Tuesday!! Our first full week of temps in the 90s—— here we go!! Texas summer is on the way!!! I am very fortunate that my exposed ceiling in my studio has white insulation that keeps my studio cool even with the happy sunlight streaming through the floor to ceiling windows that go across the whole front of my studio. After working in a space with no windows from 2002 until 2017 I love all of this light!!! My orchids love the light as well. I adore white phalaenopis orchids— and I keep them in 4 locations in my studio. I also have them in our living room, Harrison’s room, and my bedroom. The colored ones are beautiful but the white ones really float my boat. My friend Dana gave me one with 3 spikes for my birthday— she could not have given me a better present! I still get a thrill every time I arrive at work to my space full of my antiques and art. I waited patiently for this moment to happen!!! I have a new intern that started yesterday that will be with me for the whole summer. I have had interns in the past — and the poor things had to sit on a counter stool at my fabric work table. Now I have a long table with dining chairs for her to call her desk at one end. I look forward to her learning from my 28 years of experience.
The article today comes from the new issue of Elle Decor. This New York apartment on the upper East side was infused with color by Designer Brian J. McCarthy. McCarthy had worked with this couple for 15 years and had designed their home in California. He found this 3,000 square foot apartment for them on Park Avenue and fell in love with the light. He reconfigured the space with the help of architect John B. Murray and filled the space with color and the California vibe that the clients love. There is a nod to the 1920's glamour and the apartment’s roots. This apartment is SO HAPPY!!!! The wife had to convince her husband that owning their own apartment in the city instead of staying at The Carlyle would be a great idea. I am sure he agrees with her now. Enjoy this gorgeous home and have a Super Tuesday!
