Editor’s note: My outfit today is a shirt from Ann Taylor, skirt from H&M, and Valentino shoes.
Happy Friday! The sun is shining... which is always a happy thing except we were supposed to get rain all day and I TURNED OFF THE SPRINKLER SYSTEM LAST NIGHT. Oh well....it will come back on Tuesday. I was trying to conserve some water. Best laid plans don’t always work. What a productive week. Where I had nothing but problems a few weeks ago... this week everything fell into place beautifully. Now this is my kind of week!!!! Makes me want to do a happy dance! We had one horrible thing this week that happened in our world.... Mackenzie’s brother in law had a terrible boating accident and is still in the hospital. My mother, I , and some of my clients have all been praying for his recovery. So, so tragic.
More fun football ahead this weekend! The most exciting game will be TCU playing SMU for what is called “the iron skillet.”mother and I are hoping to see the new Downton Abby movie on Saturday.... oh how I adored that series!!!!!! It’s time for the Christmas card addressing to start which is a laborious task (300) but I love sending them out to keep in touch. Lacie Rue made the back of the card this year— which was Riley’s idea—- and it is darling!
Today’s article is from the new Elle Decor. Martyn Lawrence Bullard is a most talented British-born designer ——and this article is about one of his own homes in Hollywood. He describes it as “Moroccan-meets-mid century oasis in West Hollywood.” He actually decorated this home for Daily Show host Craig Kilborn before he “scooped it up” ahead of Melanie Griffith who also wanted it....but Bullard said the closets were far too small for her. This 1923 Spanish Villa once belonged to Ike and Tina Turner and Dennis Hopper. Have fun looking at an inside glimpse of his personal lifestyle and have a super weekend! Go Frogs, Geaux Tigers, and Go Cowboys!!!!!
Note the incredible ceiling in the living room. Bullard had Brad Southwick “on his back for three weeks painting the ceiling.” That is a devoted artist!!! The sofas that resemble chaise lounges are done in a Schumacher silk. The green set against the black and white is stunning.
Bullard with all of his swagger at the entrance to the home.
This is the “screening room” tented in a Schumacher stripe. Love how he took part of the sofa fabric design and used it as a trim around the ceiling.
The wallpaper in the bar is designed by Bullard for Cole & Sons. The cool photograph of Andy Warhol, Edie Sedgwick ,and Keith hearing at the famed Studio 54 ( I got to go there!!!) is by Steve Shapiro. Bullard has mini bars scattered through the house so his guests are always taken care of.
The marble floors and stairs are custom—- while the railing is original. The cool light sculpture displayed on an MLB Atelier table adds such interest.
Oh this master bath!!!!! Even the entry is fabulous with the shaped opening and wallpaper from custom from Ananbo. The incredible brass tub from catchpole & Rye is from Bullard’s home town of Kent, England. The custom marble floor from Italy is dreamy.
Bullard says his master bedroom “resembles a safari-lodge tree house.” He custom designed the bed band used some of his own velvet for Schumacker around the room. The rugs makes a huge statement!
Bullard uses furniture from MLB Atelier in the guest room and actually in many rooms of the house. His own wallpaper for Cole & Son is on the ceiling. I love the tile border around the room.
The cabinets, hood , and island are from Christopher Peacock. The profusion of green around the kitchen is so dramatic. The Moroccan tile is from Zelig Gallery. Bullard just posted this kitchen on Instagram the other day!
Such a personal and comfortable way to handle a dining room with a love seat and two chairs. I love how the doors open up to bring the outside in.
50 year old bamboo plants line the pool area. ( It is a good thing he likes the bamboo because it is next to impossible to get rid of!!!!! It really looks grand here.) The way he has handled the seating and the weather in California make this another wonderful entertaining area. Bullard says “I created my own destinations” with all of the fabulous rooms to enjoy through out the house. What a treat to get to see how this talented man lives!!!
