Editor’s note: Today I am wearing a dress from Ann Taylor with Chanel shoes.
Happy Wednesday! I feel like I have twirled around 5 times and it is already the middle of September!!! I started to panic yesterday about ordering upholstery for December—believe it or not the cut off is about here. Every year it seems like the world turns faster after Labor Day. I look in the mirror and look the same.... but time sure is flying by!!!!!
I am getting to finalize the order for the custom rugs today for my Arlington job. I am bummed that there is no way they will be here for Christmas... but that will just make January that much more exciting. I am working on custom lamp shades today (one of my favorite things!!) and a few more fabrics. I had the idea that I want to wallpaper the back of the new bookcases in the upstairs TV area at my Arlington job.... so I will be sourcing that as well. Once rooms start to come together final touches keep coming into my design brain.......actually it never really shuts off. Just switches gear from house to house. I measured and took pictures at my client’s house that I am downsizing and was truly amazed how much I am going to be able to use—- but in a different way—- in the new home. The custom bed that I mentioned in an earlier blog that I designed years ago is going to be the new master bed. She was SO excited at the thought! She said she often went into that guest room just to stare at the bed... and now it will be in her room. That made me extremely happy that she still loves it so much. She reminded me how much the upholsterer argued with me that I could not turn that carved piece of wood into a headboard.....and I kept arguing back. I won!!!!!!! Way to go Momma Kay!
The article today comes from the September issue of Elle Decor. Johann King who is the digital editor for Harper’s Bizaar takes on the challenge of this country home they call “Whisky Ridge” at first by herself and Pinterest boards... then wising up and bringing in the professionals. First steps in Gregory Shano and then a local friend Selina van deer Geest who helped to finish the kitchen and the nursery. I laughed when she said that Shano should have charged for couple’s therapy....because I have been there and done that!!!!! I call it “ no divorce court is going to go on here...everyone will win!” She got what she wanted in the end which is a “modern mix of rustic cool with nods to my fierce love of pattern and art.” Enjoy this fabulous home and have a great hump day!!!!
The front of this house in Millbrook looks like a storybook! The property is made up of 100 acres with 2 ponds and a creek. The article was so funny when she said she did not do her homework and there was no internet at the home. Being the digital editor that is a huge no-no!!!!!!! She and her now husband found the property after only 4 months of dating. Now that is storybook love!
The storybook love affair now has a precious baby girl Sienna Jane. The Harlequin butterfly print that I recognize on the pillow is one of her favorites. So happy!
Clean and crisp living room. She purchased the vintage Carlo Mollino shearling stools before the rest of the room was planned.
Their golden doodle Isla sleeps in the RH leather chair ( I love people who treat their 4-legged friends like family!)the grass cloth is from Phillip Jeffries. Artwork by Jeff Gandart graces the walls. I love a collection like this!!!
The kitchen’s dining area is so fun and whimsical. Can you imagine the view in the winter months when the entire area is covered in snow??? Pure magic!! ( Thank goodness they figured out the internet!)
The Toile wallpaper from Zoffany steals the show in the guest room. As I have said before I have a thing for strangely shaped ceilings. I adore this room!!!!
The mural by Rebecca Rebouche creates the perfect feeling in this happy nursery. There is such a story being told all around the room with he design. Love, love it!!!
King has a thing for wallpaper...as do I!...... and this one from Hinson on the walls and ceiling looks fabulous and sets off the dark bed. Great use of dark trim around the closet and windows as well!!!
This has to be my favorite room!!!! The wallpaper from Brunschwig & Fils is amazing in this master bath!!!! The birds are frolicking all over the room! The tub and fittings are from Waterworks. What an amazing house for a new family. SO HAPPY!!!!!
