Editor’s note: Today I am wearing a blouse from Vince, skirt from Anthropologie, and shoes from Nine West.
Happy Friday!!! My best friend Beast made me late for work this morning .... it was hair washing day and I really needed to start the adventure of blow drying my hair for 30 minutes(I have a lot of hair and I have to use a lot of heat and round brushing to tame the natural Afro.) It is not a pretty sight if it dries naturally.... even Harrison (when he was little) asked when I was going to look like myself again when I let my hair dry naturally once. Anyway.... as always once I start talking to Beast it is always hard to get off the phone. She was cracking me up about her trip to Turkey. She started a joke with her daughter Anna...... Guess who would hate doing this right now? She was walking through a field with stickers going to see an archaeology site. The answer was ME! Then it got to be a joke throughout the trip. When I was younger this might have hurt my feelings.... but after the age of 40 I started to embrace who I am and not apologize for it. I am prissy... I do not like to get dirty... don’t like to sweat if I am dressed up....and I do not like to get my hair wet because I turn into a version of a chia pet. My idea of a wonderful vacation involves a lovely hotel.... great sight seeing... museums .....and local shopping . Please don’t ask me to go rafting...never hiking ( my version of hell would be hiking in Big Bend for eternity)....and for heavens sake NEVER camping. Going to the bathroom in the woods is not my idea of having a great time!!!! So after my call this morning I decided to talk about what I consider a fabulous vacation .... Kay style. Here are some of my favorite things. I wish everyone a glorious weekend. It is our last of July 2019!!!!
Paris is one of my favorite cities in the world. I love the architecture... the museums....the food....and the antique shopping. I have bought some of my favorite pieces of clothing there that were local vendors. I stayed in Hotel West End when I went to Paris with my job at The Market. They took me because I speak French well enough to get along and I was one of their top producers selling antiques. This is one of the corner rooms at the hotel... with the lovely French doors opening out to the small little street that the hotel is on. The linens are wonderful...as are the bathrooms....and breakfast that can be brought to the room is divine. This is one of my happy places!
The exterior of Hotel West End. No one spoke English inside.... it was a very small hotel. They even asked me to translate an email from an American one morning....I was very complimented. The lobby is beautifully appointed.
This is a room at the Hotel Baglioni in Florence. It is a larger hotel with many sections. I like staying in the oldest section with the fabulous architecture. There were antiques in the lobby and in all the rooms......my cup of tea!!!! I adore Florence for it’s food, museums... and of course shoe shopping!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The view from one of the restaurants . Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got to stay at The Surrey hotel when I went to New York with Kravet/Lee Jofa/ Brunschwig &Fils in January of 2017. I swear this photo was taken in my room.... because I had that window seat and this view. Every single aspect of this hotel is first rate! The glasses they provided at the mini bar in the room were colored crystal stems. I loved all of the activities that the company planned for us and I had a blast meeting other top producers from around the company. But I would have loved a little more time in this fabulous room!!!!!!!
I went to school at Tulane and have been going to New Orleans since I was a little girl. One side of my family on my mother’s side has extensive history in Louisiana . I love this city!!! It is really like it is located outside the United States with it’s culture. The French quarter is beyond charming with all of the building to tight next to one another. There are secret gardens behind a lot of the facades. I could eat down here... walk for days taking in the architecture ......... and wonder about all of the history of people who have graced these streets. And the antique shopping....... OH YES!!!!!!!!!!
This is the exterior of the Surrey Hotel. Even the awning is incredible!
This is on magazine street that runs from down by the French Quarter all the way Uptown past where Tulane is located. There are incredible sections of antique stores that I have visited and purchased from over the years. I love every single thing that I found on this street for my clients!!!! At the very top of magazine close to Tulane there was a bar AT2s when I went to Tulane. It is where we hung out and swing danced to the juke box. Sadly Katrina took it away..... as it did so many places in the city. There was another bar——-Nick Castrogiovani’s ( I am sure I am spelling it wrong!) that was also wiped out by Katrina . It had been there since the days my father went to Tulane med school. It was known for it’s crazy named drinks..... one was “12 naked virgins riding on a buckboard down a rocky road.) My favorite drink was “Peeking between the grass Skirt.” The bar stools had stuffing popping out of them..... but boy was it an experience to go there!
So there is an insight to what I think it a marvelous time. None of it requires getting dirty or wet...... which makes me very happy:)
Crack me up!!
Dinner last night was roasted chicken and Texas caviar from Central Market.
I was dancing and singing too this song while I was blow drying my hair this morning!
