Editor’s note: Today I’m in a top from Banana Republic, jeans from Ann Taylor, and shoes are Tory Burch!
Happy Monday!!!! Welcome back to my blog after a long slumber! Mackenzie got married and I moved Riley into her her NYC apartment !! Busy times!!! I mentioned that I would cover Riley’s new apartment today... I will cover Mackenzie’s wedding on Wednesday. Since I was not there when Mackenzie returned on Friday... I had a photo book, flowers, and a sign in the door saying “Welcome back Mrs. McLeod” to greet her. I am such a goober....sentimental to the core. Mackenzie and I will have to take a good hour to talk about the honeymoon and Riley’ move. I feel like a freight train ran over me today... and I cried last night hugging my girl and telling her this apartment was one of my most rewarding installations I have ever done. We had a party on Saturday night...I stayed up until 2:00 am!...and her friends kept telling me that I truly made a home for Riley and Becca (her roomie.) This apartment was rocking to music and I think I had 5 of her friends ask me to come back and do the same thing for them. I will gladly come back!!!!! We went last night to get another load from her old apartment ( I think the things you leave behind have babies in the night) and said goodbye to two years in that 5th floor walk up. The sun was setting through the New York buildings on our walk home.....and I told Riley that God was helping her say goodbye and hello to her new life. I am crying as I am writing.... I don’t know why I am so moved but I am. I feel like my baby girl has finally arrived. There are pieces in this apartment from my daddy, my brother, my aunt....all who have gone to heaven....and I know they are smiling from heaven for Riley to have them now. So Happy Monday... I am riding home on the jet plane.... and my Riley will get to come home to this home tonight after a long day at work. Have a fantastic day!!!!
I do not have many before pictures. Becca sent me this when I was trying to draw my plan.
My plan. We ended up placing the dining table against the wall.... and we places another chair in the living area.
I was thrilled when the dining gable arrived. I bought it from a picture. There is even a leaf... the girls could extend it and have a dinner party of 8 if they want !!!!!
Another “while it was happing “ photo.
Friday night . After a day of moving starting at 7:00 we were quite tired but happy.
Ready...set .....go!!!! I hung art and we had a 2 Task Rabbit men here hanging draperies and putting the pieces from Wayfair together all day6 Saturday. This is at 7:00 at night before we put the food out for the party.
The piece I bought at Wayfair and the new piece of art that my mother bought for Riley. Riley and Becca were THRILLED!!!!!
They still need a piece for under the tv... and I moved two of Becca’s chairs over for guests to sit( they did not sit... they danced and talked all night!!!) The pair of art on this wall are new... I bought them for Riley from a new artist that came to see me. The top picture I gave to Riley last year for her birthday. The bottom photo my brother Cove gave me in the 90s for my birthday .
The precious brownstones on Riley’s Street
A full view of the living room. Oops.....my hanging box is on the buffet!
The hall tree that you can see a portion of has been with Riley since she was 12.
The piece of art straight ahead is from Benson-Cobb. Riley got it when she worked for me one summer. The Fritz Scholder on the right mother bought me in Santa Fe. The chandeliers on the sofa we ended up not hanging. Riley has a storage unit in the basement... so they will live there until the next stop!!!!! They have been with Riley at TCU and at her lest 2 apartments.
The marble top table on the right i bought Riley in Round Top.
This is the first time that Riley has had the bookcase in her room. The two brackets on the wall used to live in Harrison’s room.
She has a seating area in her room!!!!!!!!! Not usual for NYC!!!!!!! The round table in the corner was her eating table in the last apartment.
I left all four of Becca’s chairs in the apartment so they will be easy to pull out if they want them in the living room. The 4th one is in the kitchen.
This was my mother’s dressing table from the 60s.
The first piece of art I ever bought when I lived in NYC in 1982. The skinny piece we bought to use as a bar came from Wayfair. The champagne glasses on the left my Aunt Jan bought me when I lived in NYC.
This was actually early ( for New York) in the evening. We had more as the night went on.
Riley’s music was jamming!!!
The rolling wrack on the left was Riley’s only source of hanging clothes in her last apartment. The movers brought it by mistake. But it came in handy to air dry some of the clothes I washed. Momma Kay did 5 loads of laundry downstairs in the basement . It took me 5 times going up and down the elevator to figure out how to pay for the machines. I ended up getting one of the doormen to help me. You have to buy a card for $5.00 (that Is stupid) then use only ones or fives to put money on the card. Welcome to New York!!!! We had friends in Riley’s bedroom all night. No one could believe that she has a sitting area!!!!!!! I am finishing the blog in the Admiral’s Club at the airport. I am some kind of tired..... but oh so happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We only ate Thai leftovers last night. But this is the inaugural breakfast with placemats I sent from home !!!!!
Love this song!
