Editor’s note: Today I am in a dress from White dress from Z Spoke, kitten heels from Kate Spade (Sorry I did not get a shot of me in the rain boots and green apron. Even my client said it was quite the look!).
Happy Wednesday!!! Oh my goodness did the sky open up this morning and dump a deluge of rain !!!!! Not the best timing for my install today... but we made it work. There was so much water that we had to change the old sheets that we had in the entry because they were so wet. I was sporting quite the look with my white dress, green apron (it has my monogram of course!!), and rain boots. I had a different hairdo at 3:00 than I did at 9:30.......but all is good. We got it done!!!! My client is ready for her guests tomorrow complete with flowers in every room. I placed all of the accessories and hung all of the art. We went from empty to complete in 5 1/2 hours!!!!!! I was a little nervous about the timeframe this week because I am booked tomorrow —-so I needed to get her done!!!! Done!!!!!
I celebrated my birthday with friends last night... much laughter and so much fun! Good friends are like good wine... they just keep getting finer and bring such joy to life.
I love the article for today. It comes from the May/June issue of Veranda. Katie Ridder designed a Hampton’s home for a client who grew up a “stone throws” away. The client grew up with Warhols and Lichtensteins in her home.... and wanted the same feeling in this home. She said “It’s so gratifying to build a family house that can mean to my son what my parents’ house meant to me... to bring that magical, whimsical feeling to his childhood...Its like a hug of color.” I tend to attract clients who love color—-and I have never thought of color as getting a hug..but that makes so much sense. I believe color brings joy. It is not for everyone...but when it is right there is nothing more wonderful. Enjoy this spectacular home and have a super hump day. I cant believe it... the weekend is around the corner!
Talk about pattern on pattern! The hand-painted wallpaper is from Iksel was inspired by the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. Each panel was custom designed.....amazing!!!! The drapery fabric is Ridder’s own design. The bold blue prints on the chairs and ottoman is from Bennison.
The architect Peter Pennoyer is Ridder’s husband. Talk about a talented husband and wife team!!!! He created this entry staircase to make a dramatic U-turn..... so sexy! The calm white walls let the drama of the staircase shape and green tile floors really stand out. The house was inspired by the 1912 Mediterranean villa that once lived on the lot.
A symphony of color and pattern in the living room. The home owner wanted to “go to town”in the living and dining room. I would say job accomplished!!!
The floors in the dining room are painted and were inspired by a Moroccan checkerboard tile. The casual outdoor rattan chairs from Janus et Cie keep the lighthearted feeling in the room. The sunny paint is from Benjamin Moore...aptly named “Sunrays.”
The family room’s colors are taken from the fabulous Schumacker Japanese-bird-print on the sofa. I love the sofa having its own niche in the windows. What a completely happy room!
The dramatic bay window in the master helps to bring the outdoors in..... and provides the perfect place for a seating area. The chairs flanking the sofa are 1950s bentwood. The drapery fabric from Svenskt Tenn compliments the artwork to perfection.
Yes please and thank you to get to stay in this room!!!!! The bold blue grasscloth on the walls makes he drapery fabric and headboards explode. Check out the feat on the beds and the trim along the bottom..... fabulous little details! The cornice design sends me!!!!!!
This is the coolest master bath! Love. Love the barrel vaulted ceiling and the hand blown glass chandelier. The peacock colored doors and the tile shifting color and shape into the next room is wonderful. What a masterful job by a oh so talented husband and wife team!!!!!!!!!

My new dress from Trina Turk along with my new birthday earrings worn to dinner. Espadrilles are form Chanel.
Arugula salad with goat cheese at Mesero last night.
My margarita with jalapeños —— loved it!!!
One area of the new great room at my client’s house today. Her new upholstery is coming...so I staged the room with her old sectional and was happy we could add the new piece under the tv and the cocktail table that are part of the new furniture for the room. We stained the old limestone mantel that was spoiled from fires to give it new life. I cannot wait for the new all cream ( but stain repellent treated!) upholstery to come. The old bookshelf was removed to make way for a large TV and the new long buffet.
It did turn out to be a lovely day!
