Editor's note: Today I am wearing a blouse from Maeve, skirt from Banana Republic, and shoes from Coach.
Happy Thursday! Day one with no Adison.... we had some tears yesterday saying goodbye. Even Lacie Rue knew it was a sad day and went to bed early. Adison is helping move in her sister today at Baylor as a freshman... that is a big day!!! She helped plan the room so she is excited to see it completed. I guess you could say this is her first install!!! Mackenzie and I are working away in an office that feels incomplete today. We wish Adison all the best at Auburn and look forward to her coming back soon!!! We get to install more furniture this afternoon to the job we started in the spring. I can’t wait to see it all in place! My client is having company this weekend so it is perfect timing.
I am complimented how many people read my blog and how I touch their lives. One of the reps for Cowtan & Tout told me yesterday that I inspired her what to cook for dinner from one of my recent blogs. It is time consuming to write the blog... but I think it keeps me very current with what is going on in the design world from all around the world and I enjoy sharing. Some day I am going to write that book on how I lost 25 pounds by giving up carbs and sugar... but kept drinking wine!!!!! The way I dress is high/low just like the way I design houses. If you save money on one item you can spend more on another. The whole look turns out great!
Today’s article comes from the August issue of House Beautiful. I have still not covered all of the articles I liked from last month’s issue !!!! Mark D. Sikes takes on a project to update a vacation home in Montecito using a lot of the client’s existing pieces. I am often asked to do the same thing —- repositioning and reupholstering pieces with adding new here and there can make everything look new. I had the pleasure of having dinner with Mark last year.. he is the nicest man as well as being Uber talented. Enjoy this vacation home and have a great Thursday!
Sikes adders a a lot of natural materials to the living room and painted the whole room white— including the chandelier. The beautiful floral pattern from Lee Jofa that is on the sofa is repeated across the room on the side chair. I love the mixture of the Ikat draperies and the floral. Touches of pink on the slipper chair and the game chairs add interest. I adore blue and white— so this room pleases me to no end!
All of the different shades of blue with touches of green and yellow makes the room more interesting. So often I have clients hung up on all of the blues being the same hue. To me it is like am]n orchestra —- all of the different pieces add to the whole.
Here in the breakfast room we have a touch of modern with all of the other traditional elements with the Ellsworth Kelly painting. The gathered shade overt the table is done in a Rose Cumming fabric. The French Bistro chairs are from TK Collection.
Sikes also painted the pit side of the house white to make it feel fresher— it was previously gray.
The client already had this China Seas Bali ikat wallpaper and loved it— so Sikes added new fabrics to go with it to make things feel new. He added Ango Indian-inspired pieces like the bench from William Laman to give the room a “tropical getaway” feel. I love the pillows from Nickey Kehoe. Beautiful art from Hollyhock.
The arched headboard is upholstered in George Spencer Design’s Thistle. I have never sold this line—- but I am suer to look it up! I love adding new vendors!!the chairs were originally in the living room. Moving them gives them a new sense of purpose. I adore the bed linens. I have never done a pleated round table skirt— but thank you Mark D. Sikes for the idea!!!!!
He says in the article that “My mantra is, I want things to look just as good in 30 years.” I would say he totally accomplished that on this job!

My morning drive to work with my helper dog. I am a lucky lady to get to bring my 4-legged baby to work every day!!!
This made me giggle!
My dinner last night was grilled chicken from Central Market, zucchini salad, and leftover clam chowder from Michael's.
Oh, just love this song!
