Editor's Note: Today I am wearing a shirt and skirt from Banana Republic and shoes from Adrienne Vittadinni.
Happy Wednesday! It’s hump day! My twins turn 25 this Friday—- I cannot believe it! In some ways it has flown by in the blink of an eye... and in other ways I cannot remember life without them. They have brought me such incredible joy and I am so proud of the young adults they have become. They both did well in school and have great jobs. A mother could not ask for more. This year I am staying in town to celebrate with Harrison. Mother and I have taken our yearly trip to New York around the birthday for years... so poor Harrison got the short end of the stick. So this year we are having dinner in Fort Worth at Bonnell’s on Saturday with Harrison while Riley is riding a party bus around Manhattan with friends. I would love to be a fly on the wall to witness that scene!!! It will definitely be a “quarter of a century birthday“ kind of celebration this weekend!!! I am a sentimental fool and wanted something for them always to remember that I gave them that on their 25th— so I bought them both an original piece of art. I already gave Harrison his so I could hang it in his apartment on Saturday on move in day. He was thrilled! Riley wants to wait to open hers on Friday. Harrison got a mattress that he said is like sleeping on a cloud... I have clothes being sent to Riley. I think Momma Kay has taken good care of her 25 year old babies who aren’t babies anymore!
The article today comes from the March/April issue of Southern Home. I can’t believe that there are still a few articles that I have not covered in this issue...they are all so great! This beach house in Alys Beach is not your traditional beach house! Designer Katie Scott designed the house for her brother and sister-in -law using a lot of dramatic black with strong greens and yellows. The result is stunning!! Enjoy and have a super day.
Scott used fabrics throughout the house that were indoor/outdoor to make it user friendly. These Kelly green sofas on top of the black and white rug makes a great statement in the living room the cool circular piece of art is by Ricardo Paniagua.
Another view of the living room with it’s sweeping 14 foot ceilings. I can only imagine how gorgeous the sunlight is streaming in! The rug is an outdoor rug—- does not look like it!!
As I have mentioned many times before I have a thing about banquettes. This one in the dining room gives super flexibility and seating. The art over the banquette is fantastic!! The series of Warhol-type celebrity portraits were commissioned by architect and artist Ken Tate. Home owners Michael and Teresa picked out favorite people to be the subject. Talk about a conversation piece!!!
The house opens onto a courtyard. I love all of the architectural details used surrounding the door and over the windows.
The black is carried into the kitchen with the cabinets. It looks so crisp against the white marble countertops.
Now this is a cool detail.... it is called a plunge pool. It almost looks like a large fountain. What a great idea!!! Love, love the fountain coming out from the area under the stairs.
The master has a blue and white theme which is always a good idea. Crisp and cool.
Here in the guest room the black is in the rug and the yellow pops in the artwork and pillows. The bed is from Ikea.
Such a happy second home!
