Editor's note: Today I am wearing a dress from Kay Unger with black kitten heals from Ann Taylor.
Happy Tuesday! Day two back to work after my fabulous trip to San Miguel. I must say that even though I was away from work for entire week, I was so inspired by the culture and history that I encountered in that gorgeous city. Besides the beauty of all the surroundings the people that live and work in this town are some of the sweetest people that I have ever met. They treated us like we were the most special people there -- may be a good lesson for all of us to learn. I don't think I have taken a whole week off from work since 2005 and it truly did refresh me. Mackenzie did a great job and kept Kay Genua Designs afloat so I could have fun and frolic. My friend Shannon helped me write this blog every day that I was there so if you noticed a few sentences that were "out of character" it was her fault -- (and I'm writing this too) :-) I truly love what I do and I am ready to get back down to business but San Miguel is a trip I will always remember.
Today's article I found in Southern Home. I has never subscribed to Southern Home before and I picked it up in Central Market. It is so fine that I subscribed! This is about an Atlanta couple who moved from their stately Georgian home to a high rise. The wife was so inspired by a room in a show house done by Patricia McLean, that she knew this was the right designer to help them downsize but still keep their beloved possessions. The result is gorgeous and I could move in tomorrow. I too, find my antiques to be my old friend that I was to have around me. Enjoy this beautiful apartment and have a fabulous day!
Beautiful tufted chair paired with a more transitional bamboo and glass table. I love the striped draperies and the trio of oil paintings above the pie table.
Stunning antique settee. Note how the center leg is so heavenly carved and goes up into the face of the sofa. The carved table on the right is so unique with the delicate carving going around the shapely table. Patricia McLean did one of my favorite things by doing brackets and plates on either side of the oil painting above the sofa. I always think this makes such a beautiful wall.
LOVE LOVE this entry hall with the hand painted stripes which is one of McLeans signature looks. I love the large box tucked under the entry table -- I have a passion for boxes. Also love the rose medallion plates on the beautifully carved brackets on the wall.
When McLean was hired for the job she went through the couple old house and chose the antiques that had the proper scale. As you can tell in this beautiful moment around the fireplace she used every nook and cranny to show off the couples extensive collection of antiques bought in Europe.
The beautiful green in this dining room is the color of the bedroom of the show house that secured McLean the job. I love her collection of Dresden displayed in the built in display cabinet. I inherited a whole collection of Dresden from my grandmother that is one of my prized possessions.
A view of the opposite end of the dining room featuring de Gournay wallpaper. De Gournay is ALWAYS the right answer.
The article does not say, but my guess that the buffet with the piece displayed above used to be all part of one buffet. Love the blue and white displayed in this moment, and the gorgeous rug. To the right is a fine example of a well done bookcase and I love how she placed a table in front of the cabinets. This is something I do often and it sometimes confuses my clients but I like to use every square inch.
BEAUTIFUL SECTION OF THE FAMILY ROOM HOUSING THIS GORGEOUS BRONZE BY FREDRICK REMINGTON I LOVE HOW THE BRONZE IS THE FOCAL POINT OF THE BOOKCASE ALONG WITH THE IMARI.
BEAUTIFUL SECTION OF THE FANILY ROOM HOUSING THIS GORGEOUS BRONZE BY FREDRICK REMINGTON I LOVE HOW THE BRONZE IS THE FOCAL POINT OF THE BOOKCASE ALONG WITH THE IMARI. Beautiful tailored drapes with the Schumacher fabric. Love the use of the bullion on the chairs and ottoman -- bullion is back! This gorgeous terrace runs the whole length of the apartment, and I can openly imagine the view!
Beautiful section of the master bath with the Louis Phillip mirror. LOVE LOVE the shades the shades of the sconces on either side of the sink. So beautiful!
Beautiful master bedroom done in Venetian blue. I absolutely adore the scalloped endless on the draperies. Not how the draperies turn the corner, this room must be like a beautiful cocoon. The low attitude bench at the foot of the bed, makes my heart sing!
I love this. Amen!
For dinner last night I had a filet with spinach salad. Delicious!!!
I will never get tired of this song!!
