Editor's Note: Today I am wearing a dress by Rebecca Taylor and J.Crew sandals.
Yesterday Michelle and I went on a day trip to my clients Maggie and Jack home in Houston. We sent the movers with rugs to try in the house and Michelle and I flew on Southwest to meet the movers. It all worked like clock work expect for the train that was stalled on our way to the ariport. Give a blonde and a redhead a problem to solve in a car and we figured out how to do it and got to the airport on time! The rug viewing was very successful we ended up choosing one of the one rugs and one of the runners that we need either in a smaller size or we need to cut down. Michelle and I took fabrics on the plane and we choose fabrics for pillows, table skirt, bar stools, and a corner chair. It was great to see the house in person to see the scale needed for the kitchen and Dining Room and the other needs that Maggie wanted us to work on. Here are some of the highlights of our day. It was fast furious and long but all and all very successful!
Option 1 on the rug--this one we loved but she was scared she would get tired of the pattern over the years. The sofa and loveseat I had designed for their previous house in Houston. It worked great in this room! The green chair and ottoman use to live in a guest room in their house in Boston. Repurposing at its finest!
Here is the rug we went with! A little bit smaller but certainly appropriate for the room. This was Jack's favorite and I am firm believer in making the husband happy! Because this rug is a little more quiet in its design it will allow us to change the room up in the future if we want too!
Here I am with Maggie--I have been helping her with homes since 1997. We worked on two homes in Fort Worth, home in Boston, and the last home in Houston. She is and always will be one of my favorites!
The square table skirt that we are going to change the fabric on. There is nothing wrong with this table skirt it is still very lovely but this is its third house to live in so it needs to be freshen up!
The fabric choices we are going with for pillows, bar stools, and table skirt in the new room.
The floral in the far left Maggie decided was a little too sweet so it came out of the mix!
Beautiful kitchen window that we measured for a roman shade.
The breakfast area--we reupholstered these chairs in the old Houston house and they work great in this new spot!
We are looking for a corner piece to go in the far corner to add a little bit more life to the area.
The chandelier is also going to be replaced as well!
The runner we liked for the back hallway to either cut down or find in a different size.
I don't like to hurt my clients feelings but I did not like this window treatment--we are going to go with a cafe curtain.
This is far to "useful" for for me and this back powder room.
The chandelier that we are going to replace in the Dining Room.
Maggie found this artist Lucrecia Waggoner based in Dallas. She is a porcelain artist who designs one of a kind pieces. Each piece is wheel-thrown, glazed, and decorated with 22K gold leaf or other precious metals. Each piece is unique and we love that Maggie has this amazing art work on her Dining Room wall in her home!
We are going to reupholster the Dining Room chairs.
In in the last Houston house we used this gorgeous red in the bookcases. Maggie repeated it in this Living Room when she moved in. The cocktail table in the family room actually belongs in this room. We will be looking for a replacement in the family room. The Asmara Rug is still looking fabulous! As is the sofa that we designed for the last Houston house.
We are going to do new pillows with trim and pull in more of the Chinese red.
We are designing new ottomans skirted to the floor to go underneath this entry table pulling in colors from the Living Room.
The Master Bedroom with the beautiful Raul fabrics that we used in the last Houston house. We are going to look for a bench to go at the foot of this bed and return these little stools to the guestroom upstairs with the twin beds.
This sofa is in desperate need of a little punch. We are going to design solid pillows with a trim to add some color and life.
Steel Magnolia Tip #6: Always wear pretty shoes. Ugly shoes will depress you and ruin your creativity.
Love these quotes! I always try to dance in the rain.
Last night for dinner I had a sweet potato with Monrerary Jack cheese and little bit of leftover chicken.
Trent Harmon won American Idol and this is his new song that I love!! I think he is going to do great things!
