Editor's Note: Today I am wearing white jeans, silk blouse, and kitten heels all by Ann Taylor.
I approach how I dress every day in the same way that I approach my design business. I mix high end elements with reasonable price elements to create a high-end look. Since I know what is available on the high-end of fashion and design I am able to mix the expensive elements with lesser expensive elements that I know have the same look. This allows my clothing budget to strength further and keeps my clients very happy because I stay in budget. I take spending other peoples money very seriously and pride my self in staying in budget and delivering an overall high-end look. Because I have been doing design work for 26-years I know lots of ways to "skin a cat." I always start out in showrooms in the Design District on the high-end side. Knowing that I can not have every piece of furniture and fabric in the room come from that area I can then look for comparable substitutes that I consider to be the reasonable price area or vendor. My outfit that I am wearing today for example the Ann Taylor kitten heels look very much like a Valentine shoe that cost 8x as much. My Ann Taylor blouse looks like a Vince or Theory blouse that would cost 3x as much and I don't care who the white jeans come from as long as they fit. These jeans that cost under $100 fit me better than most $399 jeans. My Chanel pearls that I wear all the time were a great investment and add elegance to whatever I put on. My mother taught me that you can have an outfit from Target that you can have a belt, shoes, and purse from Neimans and you can totally pull it off. I am great at shopping sales especially at Bergdorfs in New York in June and July to add expensive pieces to my wardrobe that are 40/50% off.
The new shopping center coming to Fort Worth which is mostly high-end retailers brings excitement and electricity to Fort Worth. I am sure to find some of my expensive elements of my wardrobe at Neimans, Gucci, Tiffany's, Louis Vuitton, Rag & Bone, etc. Here are some more examples of my high/low dressing.
The new shopping center The Shops at Clearfork here on Edwards Ranch Property.
This day I am wearing a top from Ann Taylor it was a gift for my birthday with Escada pants and some of my favorite silk printed shoes from Betty Mueller. I have mixed real pearls with my cute and darling necklace that was also a birthday gift.
Everything I have on clothing wise on this day was what I consider reasonable-Ann Taylor, Vince Camuto, and Banana Republic. The Echo fabric belt that I bought in 1982 in New York it keeps adding a fun spark to my wardrobe! My jewelry today was my high-end element of my outfit. I have mixed pearls with gold necklaces.
This cute fringe jacket looks like it could have come out of Neimans or Bergdorf's and came from Francescas. I have my real pearls mixed with custom jewelry that adds a touch of elegance. The ring on my finger I designed with engagement diamonds from two of my grandmothers.
The polka-dot top I bought in a thrift store for $8 and I think its stinking cute!
Mixed with my real pearls and great jewelry the whole looks pulls off!
Every element that I have on was expensive. The Vince silk blouse and leather skirt and my beloved custom Leddy's boots.
I always like to say that there are no problems just opportunities. Some days are harder to remind myself of this but that is always my motto.
Last night for dinner we ate out at River Crest. I had my meat patty and salad keeping with my skinny girl regime.
If you don't know this song it will make your heart sing! So sweet and happy!
