Michelle and I returned late last night from visiting our new job site in Palm Springs, California. This will be my eighth large out of town job that I have done in my 26 years in design work. I have the out of town job down to a science. When we got this job, two weeks ago I was already prepared with fabrics to take to Palm Springs on Saturday. I had only seen pictures of the house not floor plans, so my first preparation for the job was to pull lead fabrics and to find a receiver. The receiver that was recommended to us was very excited that we were from Texas. The receptionist said "Oh Cowboys!" when she was told the Texas news. We flew in Saturday and got to the house around 1:30 pm and by 7:00 pm, I had already plan floor plans and we had chosen lead fabrics for all the rooms. Now I will go to work choosing furniture, frames, and fabrics to go with all the lead fabrics for each of the rooms. Pierre Fray and Lee Jofa were the big winners for the fabrics that I brought with even though I had resourced many vendors. After seeing Palm Springs and the house, the style of fabrics spoke to me once I got there. I was in my zone and the 5 hours seemed to past in 30 minutes. My brain was twirling and my creative juices were flowing. Here are some pictures of our first visit to Palm Springs. Our job completion date is October so this will be fast and furious!
Arriving at the airport in Palm Springs. It was open air and a very cool concept.
The view from the backyard of the house on the golf course. It was so breathtaking!
We had fabrics spread out all over the kitchen, counters, island, and breakfast table. It was sea of color!
Pool in the backyard. The bougainvillea was growing every where against walls in Palm Springs. It was breathtaking! An explosion of pink!
Our Casita at the Waldorf in La Quinta. The room was charming and well appointed.
The grounds of the hotel. Golf carts brought us to our Casita.
Dinner on Saturday night was at a Mexican food restaurant on the grounds. We loved the live music outside! So much fun and so delicious!
The Plaza across from the hotel.
Our design team that flew to Palm Springs! Gary Jordan with AAA Draperies and Michelle Kemp my wonderful assistant.
The parking attended called it our "Family Photo."
Michelle and I pictured with my client Mary Louise in front of their new home! It is going to be fabulous!
I have a motto Kay Genua does not do ugly!!!!
I love this quote!
I can truly say that my work sets my soul on fire everyday!
The Supremes always get me dancing and going! There is no picture of dinner because American Airlines chose not to feed us on the plane. Michelle and I were smart enough to bring nuts in our purse, but we had a wonderful and successful trip!
